Anthropic Gets Cash Injection
Google is investing $2 billion in Anthropic, an AI startup based in San Francisco. The company recently raised $4 billion from Amazon. Why is there so much interest in the startup? Anthropic has developed Claude 2, a chatbot that is a serious competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and many say it surpasses it in capabilities. For example, Claude 2 can happy chatting with stupid gpt summarize texts of up to 75,000 words—the length of a book. ChatGPT currently handles texts of about 3,000 words. Facebook and Instagram ad-free
The rumors have been confirmed. Meta is set to introduce a paid ad-free subscription for Facebook and Instagram users in the European Union in November. The plan will cost 9.99 per month in the browser or 12.99 euros in the iOS/Android app. Why did the giant from Menlo Park decide to make such a move? It results directly from EU regulations on collecting user data and using it to target ads. This initiative is in line with European regulations, including the Digital Markets Act and GDPR. However, it can be expected that the quite high price will not cz lists attract too many people. In the free version, the company will still use our data to show us personalized ads. So Meta wants to have its cake and eat it too – and it looks like it has succeeded.

Web Summit CEO resigns
Paddy Cosgrave has resigned as CEO of Web Summit. The event will be led by Katherine Maher, former head of the Wikimedia Foundation. Cosgrave, one of the founders of Web Summit, stepped down over his comments on X regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. His comments prompted major sponsors and speakers (including Meta, Google, Stripe, Intel, Y Combinator’s Garry Tan and Sequoia Capital partner Ravi Gupta) to pull out of the event. Web Summit will take place from November 13-15 in Lisbon and is expected to attract some 70,000 attendees, 2,600 startups and more than 800 investors.
